Tehran has urged Islamabad to seriously pursue the fate of the abducted Iranian border guards who were transferred to Pakistan.

“Through legal and international channels, we have requested Pakistan to seriously pursue the issue of the abduction of the Iranian border guards [and their transfer] to Pakistani territory,” Hossein Ali Amiri deputy interior minister said on Tuesday.

He also said all the five Iranian border guards are in good health.

The five Iranian border guards were kidnapped in Jakigour region in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan on February 6 and taken to Pakistan.

The so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the abductions.

Amiri further said that the Iranian Interior and Foreign ministries and pertinent officials are trying to secure the release of the border guards, adding that the Foreign Ministry has held talks with Pakistani officials in this regard.

The Iranian official further expressed the Islamic Republic’s readiness and capability in creating a new security atmosphere in the region.

Also on Monday, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli called for immediate action by Pakistan in this respect.

Rahmani Fazli said that if Afghanistan and Pakistan fail to establish security along their borders with Iran, the Islamic Republic will consider it its right to become involved in the matter.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour has also underlined the need for Islamabad to seriously pursue the fate of Iranian border guards.

The Islamic Republic is fully ready to establish security along the joint borders of Iran and Pakistan and launch a campaign against bandits and terrorist groups in cooperation with the Pakistani side, he said in a meeting with Pakistani envoy to Tehran.
