TEHRAN (FNA)- The First Meeting of the Free Zones Managers of the Developing 8 (D-8 or Developing Eight) countries will be held in Iran’s Qeshm free zone in the Persian Gulf in Southern Iran in late February, Head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Representative Office in Qeshm Free Zone Saeed Shaban announced on Monday.
“This representative office will be holding the first managerial meeting of the free zones of the D-8 member-states from Nigeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Turkey and Iran,” Shaban said.
He noted that several foreign guests, senior officials and managing directors of Iran’s other free zones will also be present in the two-day D-8 meeting in the Southern Iranian Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf.
The Developing 8 (D-8 or Developing Eight) are a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations that have formed an economic development alliance. It consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.
The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at the international level, and improve standards of living. D-8 is a global arrangement rather than a regional one, as the composition of its members reflects.
