Foreigners cannot restore peace in Afghanistan: IPIS Chief

Islamabad, Feb 6, IRNA -- Director General, Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) of Iran on Wednesday said that external forces have no stakes in Afghanistan and cannot find a permanent solution to restore peace and stability in the country.
Talking to IRNA, Dr. Mostafa Tork Zahrani said that Pakistan and Iran are the two countries which have to work for peace and stability of Afghanistan.

“Down the road foreigners have to leave sooner or later and Iran and Pakistan have to work closely for the peace of Afghanistan,” he said.

He added that the authorities of Pakistan do understand that after the nuclear deal the sanctions would be lifted or roll backed so they are ready for the cooperation on the gas pipeline project.

Dr. Mostafa Tork Zahrani said that IPIS and Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) have been holding dialogue annually to evolve consensus on various issues. “We have had constructive discussions on serious and sensitive matters,” he said.

Referring to the developments that are taking place in Afghanistan Iranian expert said that economic situation of Pakistan is improving but the security situation of the country has deteriorated. “The Pakistani experts have accepted in the dialogue that Pakistan is confronting serious security issues,” he said.

Director General IPIS said that unfortunately Pakistan is experiencing terrorism, ethnic and sectarian problems. He said that the government of Pakistan is willing to face these challenges with the cooperation of Iran.

Dr. Mostafa Tork Zahrani regretted that some regional countries are creating problems for Pakistan.
