BEIRUT: Lebanese Democratic Party leader Talal Arslan flew to Iran Monday to hold talks with senior Iranian officials, LDP’s media department said in a statement.
The statement added that the Aley MP’s visit to the Islamic Republic came at the invitation of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Accompanying Arslan on his trip were caretaker Minister of State Marwan Kheireddine, Nassib Jawhari, the head of LDP’s political council and Walid Barakat, the secretary-general of the party.
Speaking to reporters at Rafik Hariri International Airport prior to his departure, Arslan, an ally of Syria, said the visit aimed to boost bilateral ties between Lebanon and Iran.
Arslan said Tehran was playing a great role in the region and the world, praising efforts by the Islamic Republic to protect the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon and boost its national unity.
