Iran’s ‘Parviz’ picks up award at Dhaka film festival

The 13th edition of Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh has awarded Iranian comedy drama Parviz with the Best Actor Award.

The award went to Levon Haftvan for his performance in the Iranian director Majid Barzegar’s feature length film Parviz.

As a stage director, actor and producer from Canada, Haftvan collaborates with various International performing arts festivals and venues as artistic adviser.

He holds directing degrees from University of Tehran and Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts.

Parviz took part in several international festivals and grabbed awards such as Jury Special Prize at the 13th NETPAC and the Golden Crow Pheasant award at the 18th International Film Festival of Kerala in India.

The13th Dhaka International Film Festival also hosted two Iranian directors Rasoul Sadr-Ameli and Zohreh Zamani who served at the event’s jury panels in different categories.

Sadr-Ameli was invited to judge at the Competition Australasian Film Section along with South Korean actor Kim Ji-Seok, German filmmaker Henrik Peschel, and Bangladeshi producer Amitabh Reza Chowdhury.

Zamani presided over the jury of the Short and Independent Films Section composed of Norwegian filmmaker Gyda V. Myklebust , Dutch filmmaker Clementine Ederveen, Australian actress Robyn Hughan and Bangladeshi producer Esha Yousuf.

The 13th Dhaka International Film Festival was held from January 10 to 18, 2014. The general theme of the festival was "Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society."
