Former prosecutor headed to court, banned from travel

13 Jan 2014 - 17:20

Saeed Mortazavi, the former Tehran Prosecutor and head of the Social Security Fund, has been banned from traveling abroad.
ILNA reports that Mostafa Torkhamadani, the legal representative for a group of workers that has brought a suit against Mostazavi for misappropriation of the Social Security Fund, reported that Mortazavi has been scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday January 15.

Workers contribute to the social security fund from their earnings for insurance against unemployment.

Mortazavi will face the charges of “malversation and misappropriation of the Social Security Fund” at the Public Servants’ Court.

Last night, the Tehran Prosecutor issued a statement announcing that the report of Parliament’s investigation of the Social Security Fund” is being processed in the Public Servants’ Court.

The probe has found Mortazavi used the fund to bribe members of Parliament and the media. It has also found his dealings with detained Iranian tycoon Babak Zanjani “legally problematic.”
