Iran’s Leader urges tolerance in addressing Hijab

14 Oct 2012 - 15:09

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has urged tolerance in addressing the issue of bad Hijab in the society.

During his visit to Iran’s northeastern province of North Khorasan, Ayatollah Khamenei said everyone has shortcomings and some people’s shortcoming is their appearance. The Leader added that although “commanding right and forbidding wrong” is necessary, it should not lead to creating hatred.

The Iranian government has established Morality Police to control mandatory Islamic dress code known as Hijab that became compulsory following the victory of 1979 revolution. The Morality police, who were particularly active during summer, arrested women with bad Hijab, filed a dossier against them and freed them only after a relative brought them proper dresses. The arrests and the forces’ performance led to high tension in the society and among women during summer.
