Rome, Jan 3, IRNA -- Chairman of the Italian Senate?s Foreign Policy Commission Pier Ferdinando Casini departed Milan in northern Italy for Tehran to pay an official visit to Tehran on Friday.
Casini will discuss expansion of bilateral ties in meetings with senior Iranian officials on Saturday.
The Italian parliamentary delegation’s visit to Tehran takes place at the invitation of Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi.
During his stay in Iran, Casini is slated to have separate meetings with his Iranian counterpart, and other political and parliamentary officials on further expansion of bilateral relations between the two friendly states.
Last week, Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani stressed Iran’s key role in the region, and said her country is eager to use Tehran’s experiences and potentials in settling the regional crises.
During the meeting, Bonino said that “Italy while contributing to the promotion of Iran-Europe ties, hopes to be able to have joint cooperation with Iran in solving regional issues”.
Italy is eager to expand cooperation with Iran in economic, industrial, energy, tourism, science and research domains, she added.
