The Iranian ambassador to Rome has said that Iran and Italy are determined to improve their political and economic ties after recent meetings between their senior officials.
“In the past months, the Italian government’s positive and constructive approach [towards Iran] and the talks held between Iranian and Italian foreign ministers have provided an opportunity for the development of bilateral relations. We hope that the high-ranking officials in both countries continue to meet in the near future,” said Jahanbakhsh Mozaffari.

He also hailed Rome’s favorable approach towards Iran’s nuclear program and supported Italy’s offer to take part in the negotiations on Iran's nuclear issue.

“As an important and influential country, Italy has always played its effective and positive role... In the past months, Rome has always adopted a positive and constructive approach towards Iran’s nuclear issue and has been ahead of other European countries in this regard,” the Iranian diplomat added.

Mozaffari said although Iran’s transactions with the world saw a decline due to the US-led sanctions, economic and trade exchanges between Tehran and Rome reached 862 million euros in the first three quarters of 2013.
“After the Geneva accord and the prospective sanctions relief, Italian companies increasingly hope to resume their transactions with Iran. Many Italian companies have incurred losses as a result of US unilateral sanctions on Iran," said the Iranian ambassador, referring to last November historic nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.
"Many Italian oil, gas, and commercial companies from both public and private sectors have voiced their readiness to resume cooperation with Iran after the Geneva agreement,” he added.

The ambassador's remarks coincide with a three-day visit by an Italian parliamentary delegation to Iran, starting on Friday.
