Iran, Afghanistan keen to expand academic ties

Tehran, Jan 2, IRNA – Minister of Science, Research and Technology, in a meeting with Afghan ambassador to Tehran Nasir Ahmad Nour, underlined the expansion of mutual cooperation in the scientific and research fields between Iran and Afghanistan.
“In view of the fact that a sum of 510 Afghan university students are studying in Iran and also according to Istanbul process Tehran has been commissioned as in charge of reconstruction of Afghanistan’s science and technology sectors, therefore we hope that the meetings between higher education officials of Iran and Afghanistan will result in consolidation of scientific relations between the two countries,” the Iranian science minister said.

The Iranian minister said that Iran is committed to fulfill its commitments for boosting further research and scientific cooperation with Afghanistan.

Afghan ambassador, for his part, thanked Faraji Dana for his remarks in support of Afghanistan’s higher education.

Ahmad Nour said that different wars resulted in destruction of Afghanistan’s universities and educational centers.
