An Iranian legislator has blamed Western intelligence services for acts of terror in Lebanon, stating that global arrogance mercenaries seek to drive the Arab country into instability.
“The culprits of Lebanon’s terrorist acts are linked to the security and intelligence agencies of the Western countries. They perpetrate terrorist acts in order to prevent the spread of Islam in the world and create instability in the region,” member of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Safar Naeemi-Raz said on Friday.
He noted that the world arrogant powers verbally support human rights, but actually train and recruit mercenaries to carry out their inhumane crimes in the world.
Naeemi-Raz said terrorist attacks are mostly meant to deal a blow to a government and nation, adding that the United States and arrogant powers commit many crimes in other countries through their elements to undermine Islam.
At least five people were killed and over 70 others injured after a huge car bomb went off near the headquarters of Lebanon’s March 14 Alliance and the parliament in Beirut on Friday.
A senior figure of the March 14 Alliance and former finance minister, Mohammad Shatah, and a companion of his were among those killed in the blast. Shatah also served as an adviser to the country’s ex-prime minister, Saad al-Hariri.
The Lebanese capital has been hit by several deadly bomb attacks over the past few months.
