Zanganeh urges saving on fuel consumption

25 Dec 2013 - 14:03

TEHRAN Dec 25 (Shana): Iranian minister of petroleum Bijan Zanganeh announced that saving on fuel consumption was the only solution to leave behind cold weather.
Speaking at a meeting with members of Energy Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, Zanganeh blamed delay in exploitation from South Pars gas field phases as the main reason behind gas shortage in the country.

“If five phases of South Pars gas field had been completed in recent years, the country would not have faced uncertainties on meeting its gas needs”, Zanganeh told the meeting.

He continued: Petroleum Ministry has given priority to meeting gas needs of the household sector; therefore it has no option except restricting gas supply to some petrochemical plants as well as industrial sector to counter gas shortage.

Zanganeh stated that various oil industry units were involved in round the clock efforts to provide fuel needs, noting more than half of thermal power plants of the country are using liquid fuel “so that just on Tuesday 140 million liters of fuel oil and gasoil were delivered to power plants”.

He concluded the country was losing about 30 billion dollars due to using liquid fuel instead of natural gas urging people to save on energy.
