Erdogan orders detention of Turkey-based Takfiris fighting in Syria

18 Dec 2013 - 14:58

TEHRAN (FNA)- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered the country's security forces to arrest the al-Qaeda-linked Takfiri terrorists who fight against Syria and have hideouts in Turkey.

According to FNA dispatches, Erdogan has ordered the Turkish intelligence agencies and police forces to stop and apprehend the militants who have training bases and hideouts inside Turkey.

Erdogan has ordered the security forces to specially focus on the Takfiri members affiliated to al-Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS), al-Nusrah Front, Lava al-Tauhid and Ahrar al-Sham.

The Turkish police which received the order on December 3 have arrested a large number of people suspected with cooperation with the afore-mentioned groups in Erzincan, Konya, Diyarbakir and Istanbul provinces.

Turkey has widely been criticized for its interference in the internal affairs of neighboring Syria.

Turkey is among the countries that support militants inside Syria. Ankara provides military training for anti-Damascus militants along its borders with Syria.

In recent months, thousands of the Turkish people have taken to the streets in different cities to protest against their government's interference in Syria.

Demonstrators shout anti-government slogans and hold placards holding Erdogan's ruling AKP Party responsible for a possible genocide in Syria.

And now in a U-turn change of policy, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu came to inform Iran's President Hassan Rouhani that his country doesn’t think that foreign intervention in Syria would benefit the regional states.
