‘Three Persian Gulf islands inseparable part of Iran’

11 Dec 2013 - 22:16

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham says repeating baseless claims will not change historical facts about Iran’s ownership over the three Persian Gulf islands.
“Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa are inseparable parts of Iran and repeating baseless claims about the three Iranian islands will have no impact on historical facts,” said the Iranian Spokeswoman on Wednesday.

“All of the measures and actions taken with regards to the three islands are in line with the sovereignty right of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Afkham added.

Her remarks came in response to a statement issued at the end of a two-day [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Kuwait City, which raised unfounded allegations about the ownership of the three Iranian islands.

The islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa have always been part of Iran historically, proof of which can be found in and corroborated by countless historical, legal, and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world.

However, the United Arab Emirates has repeatedly made baseless claims to the islands.

Afkham further noted that Tehran sets no limitations to the expansion of friendly and brotherly cooperation with the Persian Gulf littoral states.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the establishment of good relations with its neighbors a priority and Iran’s unwavering and principled policy towards neighboring states is based on developing and deepening friendly relations, good neighborliness, non-interference in the domestic affairs [of other countries] and mutual respect,” the senior Iranian official pointed out.

She added that the Iranian administration is determined to take practical steps towards this goal.
