9 Dec 2013 - 15:52

TEHRAN (FNA)- Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi deplored imposition of unilateral sanctions on the nations defending their rights, and stressed that Beijing has never backed such moves.

Speaking at a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Sunday, the Chinese official emphasized that China has always opposed unilateral sanctions against countries and would never implement them.

He further described Beijing’s ties with Tehran as strategic and sustainable and called for further expansion of all-out relations.

Yang Jiechi arrived in the Iranian capital on Saturday night to work out a new road map for boosting mutual cooperation between the two friendly nations in all spheres.

The Chinese official who serves as a top advisor for political and security affairs is accompanied by a ranking political, security and economic delegation.

In mid-July, a Symposium on Unilateral Sanctions and International Law lashed out at the US and its western allies for their embargoes against Iran, underlining that the move is illegal and illegitimate.

The “Symposium on Unilateral Sanctions and International Law, held in the Hague on July 11, was participated by a group of renowned international jurists, tribunal justices, professors of international law from European and Asian universities as well as researchers ,who condemned the US-led international sanctions imposed on Iran.

Certain states in the West accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.

The Islamic Republic says that it considers its nuclear case closed as it has come clean of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s questions and suspicions about its past nuclear activities.
