TEHRAN (FNA)- Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai plans to pay an official visit to Iran in coming days.

Karzai will travel to Iran to confer with senior Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, on the latest regional and international developments and  ways to further expand the bilateral ties between Tehran and Kabul.

Last week, in a meeting on the sidelines of the 21st Meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Afghan counterpart Zarar Ahmad Moqbel Osmani stressed the need for the further development of mutual cooperation between Tehran and Kabul in all domains.

During the meeting, Zarif expressed Tehran’s readiness to boost cooperation with Kabul in various fields which would set the stage for fighting extremism, war, narcotics trafficking and resolving the problems in border areas.

Osmani, for his part, stressed Afghanistan’s interest in expanding cooperation with Iran.
