TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's President Hassan Rouhani extended his congratulations to the Iranian Beach Football Team on their championship in the Intercontinental Beach Football Cup 2013 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).


“I am confident that this victory is a prelude to the powerful presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in all sport fields,” President Rouhani said on Saturday in his congratulatory message.

The Iranian beach football team was crowned as the new world champion after beating the Russians in the final match in Dubai Saturday evening.

The Iranian beach football team defeated Russia 4-3 in the final match.

Iran had won the hosts, the UAE, 2-1 in the semi-final.

In its first game on Tuesday, Iran beat world champion Russia 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in a Group B encounter.

Then, the wonderful Iranians won Brazil again in penalty shootouts on Wednesday. The two teams drew 4-4 in the regulation time, but the Iranians won the match 7-5 in the penalty kicks.

Next was Italy. The Iranians won the European champions in their third match on Thursday. The two teams drew 7-7 and Iran won the penalty kicks 2-1.
