BEIRUT – Iran defeated Lebanon 4-1 on Tuesday and booked a place in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
In the match took place behind closed doors at the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium for security reasons, Amir Hossein Sadeghi gave the visiting team a lead with a header in the 39th minute.
Fulham midfielder Ashkan Dejagah extended Iran’s lead in the 51st minute.
Four minutes later Masoud Shojaei was brought down in the penalty area and Iran captain Javad Nekounam converted a penalty kick.
Reza Ghoochannejhad found the back of the net in the 64th minute in a crowded Lebanon penalty box.
Mohamad Haidar pulled a goal back in the 79th minute.
Kuwait defeated rock bottom Thailand 3-1 in its home match in the group and booked a place in the competitions.
Iran topped Group B with 13 points, followed by Kuwait with nine points and Lebanon with five points. Thailand remained at the end of the table without a single point.
