Qazvin, Nov 16, IRNA – Deputy Head of the Construction and Development Of Transportation Infrastructure Company, Hossein Nazzadeh, said on Sunday that Iran welcomes foreign investment in the project for construction of Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway.
Speaking on the sidelines of visit to the region by a delegation of the ECO officials for inspection of the Qazvin-Rasht-Astara project, Nazzadeh said, “We hope that through cooperation with the ECO states and Russia the railway network will soon be put into operation.”
He said the project will link Central Asia with the Caucasus and northern Europe, further facilitating international transit in the region.
He added that the project will also promote economic, political and social exchanges among regional states, including the ECO members. “For the same reason, the project under construction is considered the most important transportation project of Iran.”
The official said the railway track from Qazvin to Rasht is 164 kilometers, whose construction work shows a 80 percent progress.
