Iran’s stances to promote sustainable development goals explained

7 Nov 2013 - 9:10

New York, Nov 7, IRNA – Iran’s ambassador and deputy permanent representative to the United Nations explained Iran’s stances and priorities for promotion of sustainable development and determination of its goals.

Speaking in the UN General Assembly Financial and Economic Committee meeting on Wednesday, Gholamhossein Dehqani, by referring to existing trend in the UN for determination of world agenda for sustainable development, said that the experience has shown that considering economic, social or environmental aspects of development issues separately cannot lead to sustainable development in the world.

He added that undoubtedly for access to a balanced and sustainable development it is necessary to take a united approach, integrated and convergent agenda.

Examples of world current challenges by which Iran is also affected are desertification, demolishing of lands, drought and sand and dust storms, said the ambassador, underlining the necessity of promotion of regional and international cooperation to face this great problem.

Dehqani again underlined Iran’s commitment to an active participation in all related processes in determination of sustainable development goals and expressed hope that existing trends can lead to results which include interests of all member states of the United Nations.
