New York, Oct 23, IRNA – Members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) have called on the United Nations Security Council to act against Zionist regime’s desecration of religious sites in the holy city of Qods in the occupied lands.
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN Mohammad Khazaei who also serves as the chairman of the NAM’s coordination center, in an address to the UNSC on Tuesday expressed deep concern of the NAM members over recent insults of the Zionist settlers against religious sacred places in Bayt-al-Muqaddas including the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Iran assumed the rotating presidency of NAM for a three-year term in early September, 2012.
Khazaei urged the UNSC to act immediately to stop Israel’s moves which have jeopardized peace and security in the Middle East region.
The Zionist regime has lately managed to destroy parts of the Al-Aqsa Mosque to build a synagogue there.
NAM is strongly concerned about Israel’s recent acts of aggression in the East Bayt-al-Moqaddas and believes those acts are resulted from provocative measures made by Israeli extremists including the Zionist officials and the Jewish settlers.
Criticizing the shameless measures of the Israeli extremists, Khazaei said their acts would add fuel to religious tensions which could have dangerous results.
He added that NAM members are also deeply concerned over violation of the Palestinians’ human rights by the Zionist regime.
Khazaei referred to the expansion of the Jewish settlements as well as building of the separation wall by Israel as open examples of violating the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War is commonly referred to as the Fourth Geneva Convention. It defines humanitarian protections for civilians in a war zone, and outlaws the practice of total war.
