BEIRUT: Iran's ambassador to Lebanon denied Monday the presence of Revolutionary Guards members in the country while President Michel Sleiman asked for a clarification from Tehran over the issue.

According to Sleiman's press office, Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi denied comments by the top commander of the guards, who was quoted as saying that members of the elite unit had high-level “advisers” in Lebanon and Syria.

Roknabadi told the president that the comments by the top commander related to the situation in Syria, Sleiman's office said.

Revolutionary Guard Maj. Gen. commander Mohammad Ali Jafari told reporters that Quds force members have been in Syria and Lebanon as "advisers" for a long time, but did not elaborate further.

During Roknabadi's meeting with Sleiman, the president asked for clarification from the concerned Iranian authorities over the matter.
