President Rakhmon hails Iran’s key role in development of Tajikistan

Dushanbe, Oct 11, IRNA – Tajik President Imomali Rakhmon underlined the importance of Iran in development of his country.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, our closest partner after 22 years of independence, has played an important role in development and stability of Tajikistan,” President Rakhmon said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Dushanbe Ali Asqar Sherdoust on Friday.

The Tajik president said that Iran has helped a lot for restoration of peace and stability in Tajikistan, adding, “Iran was the first country to recognize us as an independent government in the Central Asia.”

“I have always supported status and stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran at podiums of international organizations because Iran share the same language as Tajikistan does and it is also the brother of Tajikistan,” President Rakhmon added.

The Iranian ambassador, for his part, said that Iran has completed two important projects of Sangtoudeh-II power plant and Esteqlal tunnel in Tajikistan.

Sherdoust pointed out that more than 200 Iranian companies are presently active in different areas in Tajikistan.
