12 Oct 2013 - 8:56

A bomb explosion in a town in eastern Iraq has killed three people and injured 11 others, police officials say.
The attack took place on Friday near an outdoor market in the town of Tuz Khormato, located 88 kilometers (55 miles) south of Kirkuk, said town police chief colonel Hussein Ali Rasheed, The Associated Press reported.

Earlier in the day, three people were killed and nine others were wounded in a bomb blast in the southeastern Baghdad suburb of Nahrwan.

The casualty figure for the two attacks was confirmed by medical officials from nearby hospitals.

On Thursday, violence across Iraq claimed 21 lives and left many injured.

According to the United Nations, a total of 1,057 Iraqis, including 928 civilians, were killed and another 2,326 were wounded in terrorist attacks throughout the country in July -- the deadliest month since 2008.

Violence also left almost 1,000 people dead and more than 2,000 wounded in Iraq in September, according to the UN.

Iraq’s Interior Ministry has said that militants have launched an open war in Iraq and they want to push the Middle Eastern country into chaos.

“The country is currently facing an open war from bloodthirsty sectarian forces that aim to plunge the country into chaos,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement issued on July 30.
