Iranian researchers to operate fetus's spine for first time in Mid-East

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian researches at Shiraz Medical Sciences University plan to carry out an operation on spine of a 25-week-old fetus for the first time in the Middle East whose small of the back has been damaged.
The fetus is probably will be paralyzed aborning and will lose his urination and defecation control if not operated.

The fetus is going to be operated inside his mother's abdomen by Iranian researchers as well as an American medical team invited to join the operation.

It is going to undergo the surgery without opening his mother's womb which increases the percent of recovery by 70-80 percent.

The surgery has only been conducted in some European and American countries so far, and this would be the first time in the Middle East.
