Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has expressed hope that relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Germany will further expand.
Iran and Germany “enjoy age-old and cordial ties,” Rouhani said on Saturday in response to a congratulatory message from his German counterpart Joachim Gauck.
“I hope these historical relations will further develop and strengthen in all fields through better cooperation between the two governments,” Rouhani said.
The Iranian president said his administration will tap into all its potentialities to engage in international interactions, establish good relations with other countries and play its “constructive role” in settling the existing problems.
“To that end, the expansion of relations with the German Federal Republic, as a European Union country, is a priority of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy,” Rouhani said.
He expressed hope that the two countries will work toward reviving relations in areas such as industry and trade which,as he said, have suffered unwanted restrictions.
Rouhani won Iran's presidential election on June 14 with 50.7 percent of a total of over 36 million ballots counted.
