Rouhani congratulates Iran wrestling victory

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has congratulated the Iranian nation and the country’s national freestyle wrestling team for winning the championship title at the 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championships.
“I congratulate all the sport-loving people of our country on this superb ..[victory] and pray to God Almighty to bestow more dignity and honor on all,” said Rouhani in a Wednesday message.

The Iranian president also expressed gratitude for the endeavors by the coaches, technical team and the champions of the national wrestling team.

On Wednesday, the Iranian outfit landed in the first position of chart with 46 points after freestyle wrestler Ezzatollah Akbari, who had earlier overpowered Alexandr Burca of Moldova, Georgian athlete Iakob Makarashvili, Yunierki Blanco Mora from Cuba and Japanese wrestler Sohsuke Takatani, defeated Rashid Kurbanov from Uzbekistan in the semi-final bout of the men’s 74-kg category at Budapest Sports Arena.

The victory came a day after Iran clinched a pair of bronze medals in the men’s 60-kilogram and 84-kilogram categories.

On Monday, Iranian freestyle wrestlers snatched two gold medals at the world wrestling championships.

Reza Yazdani won the gold medal in the men’s 96-kg category after he defeated his Azerbaijani opponent Khetag Gazyumov.

Earlier in the day, Iran earned its first gold medal in the world championships when freestyle champion Hassan Rahimi overwhelmed India’s Amit Kumar in the final match of the men's 55-kg category.

The 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championships opened in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest on September 16, and will wrap up on September 22.

Budapest Sports Arena hosts the competitions in the three styles: Greco-Roman, men’s freestyle, and women’s freestyle.
