TEHRAN (ISNA)- Managing Director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Ataollah Sadr announced the volume of direct transfer of goods to Iranian ports would be increased after the EU lifted some sanctions on Iran's Shipping Lines.
"This issue would provide another opportunity for more activities of our country's shipping lines in different spheres and Iran's maritime success would be more than before," Sadr told ISNA.

He further added loading and unloading capacity of the country's ports totals 184 million tons, while only 139 million tons of the capacity was used last year.

There are 11 main trade ports in Iran, 8 of which are located in southern Iran near Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, he said, adding 10 million tons of goods were transited last year, 50 percent of which were transferred through naval borders.

Sadr also added Iran has never had any problem regarding equipment and facilities, and is one of the best countries in terms of loading and unloading capacity.

The country's loading capacity has totaled 184 million tons in 2012, which is 20 million tons more than transit capacity of the ports, he continued.
