Iran wins bronze at World Wrestling Championships

Iranian freestyle wrestler Masoud Esmailpour has claimed the bronze medal in the men’s 60-kilogram category at the 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championships in Hungary.
On Tuesday, the 25-year-old Iranian sportsman, who had triumphed over his Azerbaijani, Polish and US rivals in his marches to the final bout, was defeated by Bekhan Goygereev of Russia in the semifinals at Budapest Sports Arena.

Esmailpour downed Artur Arakelyan from Armenia in the category's last encounter to win the bronze.

The gold medal went to Russian athlete Bekhan Goygereev and Bulgarian wrestler Vladimir Dubov took the silver.

On Monday, Iranian freestyle wrestlers snatched two gold medals at the world wrestling championships.

Reza Yazdani won the gold medal in the men’s 96-kg category after he defeated his Azerbaijani opponent Khetag Gazyumov.

Earlier in the day, Iran earned its first gold medal in the world championships when freestyle champion Hassan Rahimi overwhelmed India’s Amit Kumar in the final match of the men's 55-kg category.

The 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championships opened in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest on September 16, and will wrap up on September 22.

Budapest Sports Arena hosts the competitions in the three styles: Greco-Roman, men’s freestyle, and women’s freestyle.
