14th Summit of Assembly of Experts begins in Iran

The 14th Summit of Iran’s Assembly of Experts has begun in the capital, Tehran, with the attendance of senior Iranian officials.
The two-day summit kicked off on Tuesday in the capital with the opening speech of Chairman of the Iranian Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, Head of the Guardian Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati and Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani are among the participants of the event.

Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi and Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani as well as other senior Iranian clerics and officials are also present at the summit.

Commander of Iran’s Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani is scheduled to address the summit and deliver a speech on the latest regional developments including the situation in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon and other regional countries.

President Rouhani is also scheduled to give a speech about Iran’s domestic and foreign affairs on the second day of the summit.

The Assembly of Experts is a body of Islamic Jurisprudence scholars who are directly elected to office in a national poll.

The Assembly holds meetings twice a year to review major national issues and every other year to appoint a new chairman.
