Ahmadinejad administration accused of "illegal" money transfer

1 Sep 2013 - 13:19

Akbar Torkan, the chief aide to President Hassan Rohani, says it was “illegal” for 160 billion rials to be transferred from presidential coffers to the newly established Iranian University, which is linked to former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The announcement indicates that on August 3, the day of Hassan Rohani’s inauguration, the former administration transferred 160 billion rials from the presidential account to Iranian University, which has been newly established by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Torkan told the Khaneh Mellat website that there are no provisions allowing such a transfer. He added that the issue is being investigated.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced the establishment of the non-profit university in his last speech as president, adding that donations were being accepted.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s close aide Hamid Baghai, his economic minister Shamseddin Hosseiny and deputy minister of finance Behrouz Moradi are among the people involved in establishing the new university.
