Rouhani stresses relations between Iranian and Russian Muslims

1 Sep 2013 - 12:26

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has expressed hope for the expansion of relations between Iranian and Russian Muslims.
Responding to a congratulatory message by Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin, Rouhani on Saturday expressed hope that historical, religious and cultural ties between Iranian and Russian Muslims would further expand.

In reply to a separate message by Leonel Vasquez Bucaro, the president of the Central American Parliament and the head of Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, Rouhani said an increase in interaction between the two bodies and Iran’s Majlis would strengthen relations between the Iranian and Latin American as well as European nations.

Rouhani was elected Iran's president on June 14 by winning over half of the votes in a national election marked by a turnout of more than 72 percent.

He was sworn into office on August 4, a day after being endorsed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
