Leading Iranian female filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad has been appointed president of the jury panel at the 2013 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
Best-known for addressing social problems in her films, Bani-Etemad will take charge of the judging panel of the New Currents section at the 18th edition of the festival.

The artistic director of Critic’s Week at Cannes Film Festival Charles Tesson, the chief film critic of the Variety Scott Foundas, Japanese director Aoyama Shinji and the South Korean filmmaker Chung Ji-Young are jury members of the section which is dedicated to the productions from new Asian filmmakers.

Bani-Etemad also led the jury of Muhr Asia-Africa Documentaries section at the 5th Dubai International Film Festival in 2008.

She has directed numerous feature-length and short films as well as documentaries, which have garnered many international and national awards.

“The characters in my films are real, [from among] the people whom I might meet every day,” she had earlier stated.

Widely considered as Iran's premier female director, Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, has won numerous international awards and received an Honorary Degree for her contribution to World Cinema and the Iranian culture and society from London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

She also received the Prix Henri Langlois Award of the Rencontres Internationales du Cinema Heritage in France for contributing to the international cinema and sharing her passion for films with the young generation.

She started her career in 1986 with Off-Limits and made an international breakthrough with The Blue-Veiled, which won her the Bronze Leopard of the 48th Locarno Film Festival.

Narges(1992), Canary Yellow (1988), The May Lady (1998) andWe Are Half of Iran's Population (2009) are among her remarkably popular cinematic productions.

This year’s Busan International Film Festival is programmed to take place from October 3 to 12.
