UN inspections should be far from political affiliations, ambassador

27 Aug 2013 - 16:05

Damascus, Aug 27, IRNA – Iranian Ambassador to Syria Mohammadreza Raouf Sheibani said the United Nations investigations should be far from any kind of political tendencies and affiliations.
Talking to IRNA on Tuesday, he said it is important to see that how sincere the UN investigation team feels towards the goodwill gestures being shown by the Syrian government.

He said getting into an agreement with the UN arms investigators is a positive step which reveals the Syrian government’s good intentions.

Since the Syrian government is absolutely confident about use of chemical weapons by terrorist groups, it permitted investigations in the shortest possible time, he noted.

The ambassador further expressed hope that the investigation team would consider the case solely on the basis of technical and expert facts and would not be influenced by any political pressures.

He reiterated that an study on the regional developments will reveal that a big scenario with numerous chapters has been devised, the main objective of which is to escalate security and social tension in Lebanon.

The recent blasts in different neighborhoods in Lebanon were aimed at rising religious tensions as well as exerting political and psychological pressures on the Syrian government, he said, noting that recruiting and dispatching of foreign fighters to Syria by terrorist groups was the last chapter of the scenario parts of which have already failed.

Sheibani further believed that the confusion and chaos in the US diplomatic apparatus regarding the regional developments is the main reason behind the irrational and hasty decisions made by Washington.
