The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is to reportedly hold an emergency meeting of its foreign ministers in response to an Iran's diplomatic initiative, to address the US's “plans” for forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.
According to The Iran Project, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he had engaged in extensive diplomatic outreach over the recent days, holding discussions with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Gambia, which currently holds the OIC’s rotating presidency.
In an official letter to the OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha, the top diplomat said he had outlined the urgency of convening the meeting to discuss and counter colonial efforts to forcibly relocate the Gaza Strip’s Palestinian population.
Iran's proposal has garnered widespread support from the OIC member states, and the meeting is expected to take place in a few days' time, an IRNA correspondent reported on Wednesday citing an informed source at the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
