TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Sierra Leonean counterpart Samuel Kamara in a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday discussed bilateral ties and mutual cooperation.


During the meeting in Tehran today, the Iranian and Sierra Leonean foreign ministers underlined the need for the further expansion of bilateral ties between the two countries.

Salehi pointed to the current status of Iran-Sierra Leon relations, and reiterated the need for the enhancement of the bilateral relations, specially in economic and trade fields.

“Iran enjoys high potentials and good experiences in technical, engineering, agricultural, health, educational and academic fields …,” the Iranian foreign minister said, elaborating on Iran's potentials and capacities for expanded cooperation with the African state.

He noted that expansion of relations with the African continent is one of the priorities of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy which will be pursued and reinforced during the tenure of the new Iranian president.

The Sierra Leonean foreign minister, for his part, said that his country is willing to further develop its relations with Iran and make use of the Islamic Republic’s valuable experiences.

Kamara arrived in Tehran on Sunday to attend Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony.

The swearing-in ceremony of Rouhani was held in Tehran on Sunday in the presence of senior Iranian state and military officials as well as foreign dignitaries.

Iranian officials have voiced support for the African states, saying that strong relations, cooperation and support for the African nations constitute the Islamic Republic’s strategy.
