The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the martyrdom of Majid Divani in an Israeli airstrike in Syria.

According to The Iran Project, ivani, born in the Iranian city of Khorramshahr, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday after being wounded in the Israeli airstrike three days ago, the IRGC said in a statement Thursday.

The IRGC expressed condolences and congratulations over Divani’s martyrdom. "Once again, the Islamic Revolution, by offering one of the defenders of the shrine, has watered the sturdy tree of the Islamic Revolution," the statement said.

The term "holy shrine defender" refers to advisers and military personnel who fight on behalf of Iran to defend and protect Shia sites and peoples in Iraq and Syria from groups such as Daesh, and in support of the Syrian government.

In April, Israeli strikes on Iran’s consulate in Syria left at least 11 people dead – among them Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the highest-ranking Iranian military official to be martyred since the January 2020 assassination of Gen Qassem Suleimani in Baghdad by the US in cooperation with Israel.

Gen. Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, Gen. Zahedi’s deputy and the deputy of coordination of the Quds Force, was also martyred in the airstrikes, along with other IRGC advisers.

The Islamic Republic responded to the terrorist act by launching more than 300 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and suicide drones at Israeli targets.

Last month, a prominent IRGC general lost his life in an Israeli airstrike that martyred Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.

Iran launched at least 180 missiles into the Tel Aviv area on Tuesday, forcing millions of settlers to scramble for bomb shelters.
