TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) confirmed in a statement that the head of the political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement, Ismail Haniyeh, was martyred in Tehran in an Israeli assassination strike with the use of a projectile whose warhead weighed around 7 kg.
According to The Iran Project, in the third statement following the martyrdom of Haniyeh in the wee hours of July 31, the IRGC said on Saturday that the Zionist regime has carried out the assassination attack after its humiliation and failure in 300 days of war on the Gaza Strip.
It also warned Israel against the “strategic and devastating consequences” of the assassination, saying the Zionist regime and its overt sponsor, namely the US, are going to regret it.
The IRGC said the child-killing Zionist regime committed the terrorist crime in Tehran with the purpose of fomenting division and sedition within the Islamic world and the resistance front, but the Muslim community’s vigilance foiled the Israeli plot.
It further dismissed speculations by the Western and Zionist media outlets that are fueled with “sinister political objectives” in order to divert the attention of public opinion.
All security protocols and safety requirements were fully applied to the residence of Haniyeh in Tehran, which is used for accommodating political figures and foreign guests, the statement noted.
Investigations show that the terrorist operation has been carried out by “a short-range projectile with a warhead weighing around 7 kilograms” along with a huge explosion, fired from outside the premises of the guesthouse, the statement added.
The IRGC renewed the pledge to take revenge against the “terrorist and adventurist Zionist regime”, warning that Israel will receive a “harsh punishment” in due time and location with appropriate quality.
