The Iran Project , 2 Jun 2024 - 14:25

Iran’s former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has registered to run for president in the country’s early election which has been slated for June 28.

According to The Iran Project, Iran’s snap election organized after the death of Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last month.

He was filmed registering his candidacy at the Interior Ministry in Tehran, pledging to bolster Iran's economy in a video shown on Iran’s TV.

My most important motivation is to focus on solving economic problems,” Ahmadinejad said.

Ahmadinejad held the office from 2005 to 2013 for two consecutive terms.

He was also barred from standing in the 2017 election by the Guardian Council of Iran.
