Iran has strongly condemned the deadly wave of terrorist attacks across Iraq, warning that they are aimed at fuelling sectarian strife in the Muslim world.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the spread of terrorist activities in Iraq.
He said the recent attacks have been carried out by terrorist groups that are pursuing their illegitimate political goals.
The Iranian spokesperson also warned that security upheavals in Iraq are part of a “dangerous plot by the international hegemony” to fan the flames of sectarian divide in Islamic countries.
Araqchi called on all Muslim countries and nations to fulfill their historic responsibility in countering this plot.
Iraq is witnessing its worst bloodshed since 2008 and security forces are a prime target of the violence.
On Tuesday, the al-Qaeda-inspired Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, claimed responsibility for a series of bombings that killed dozens of people in the Arab country.
On Monday, at least 57 people were killed in more than a dozen bomb attacks across Iraq.
