Iran-Ghana friendly match called off

27 Jul 2013 - 21:47

TEHRAN – The friendly match between Iran and Ghana football teams has been called off after the training camp in Portugal was cancelled.
Iran planned to hold a training camp in Lisbon, Portugal in August but it has been cancelled due to a lack of funds.

“We are going to advance to the next round in the 2014 World Cup but it will not happen without adequate resources,” Iran coach Carlos Queiroz said in a news conference on Saturday.

Queiroz rebuffed the speculation that he is not interested in playing with the big teams. He said, “I don’t know where the speculations come from. We have to learn from friendlies and for example we cannot play the teams such as Brazil,” the Portuguese added.

Iran is going to play a friendly match with Venezuela as well in preparation for the 2014 World Cup.
