Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian exchanged views with his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan on bilateral, regional and international matters during a phone call on Monday.

According to The Iran Project,Amir Abdollahian expressed readiness in the phone conversation to enhance bilateral relations in the fields of technology, scientific, cultural, industrial, and commercial areas, as well as discussions on various topics related to the Islamic world, especially Palestine.

He also proposed holding an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and expressed willingness to actively participate in the meeting with his Malaysian counterpart, expressing hope that such a meeting would be an effective step towards ending genocide and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza on the eve of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Malaysian counterpart, for his part, welcomed the proposal for an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of Islamic countries, stating that Malaysia is determined to push for a ceasefire and appreciated the Iranian efforts in this regard.

“Malaysia is determined to help establish a ceasefire and stop conflicts and appreciates the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard,” Hasan stated.

The foreign ministers of both countries also discussed strengthening trade agreements and planning for high-level officials’ visits to Tehran and Malaysia.

Last year, during a meeting with Iran’s new Ambassador to Malaysia, Valiollah Mohammadi-Nasrabadi, Amir Abdollahian discussed the importance of Malaysia in the world of Islam and the East Asia during the meeting.

The senior Iranian diplomat urged Mohammadi-Nasrabadi to work on strengthening Tehran’s connections with Kuala Lumpur in the fields of research, technology, tourism, health, and agriculture.

The foreign minister emphasized the significance of offering appropriate consular services to Iranian nationals who reside in Malaysia.
