The CEO of Digikala, Iran's Amazon-like platform, was reportedly arrested and then after some hours released on bail.

According to The Iran Project, Hamid Mohammadi, one of the founders of DigiKala,  in a tweet on the X platform Sunday evening announced the detention of the company's CEO.

Masoud Tabatabai, the CEO of Digikala, was arrested by order of the Security Prosecutor's Office, and after some hours of investigation was freed.

A few days ago, Iran’s judiciary accused online retailer Digikala of blasphemy.

 Digikala has been charged with publishing "insulting images of the sacred" over some of the products (such as mug cups and shoes)  it offers to its customers.

The prominent retailer has faced criticism for designing mugs, cups, and shoes with names and humorous short texts, some of which referred to holy Shia figures. 

Digikala has published a statement on its website about the recent incidents, stressing that it will monitor its products more strictly.

On its February 9 statement, the company apologized for any "allegations of insulting the sacred", adding that it will do its best to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
