Unidentified assailants have carried out an attack against the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
The attackers fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the UAE compound, which houses both the embassy and the ambassador’s residence, on Thursday.
Libyan Interior Ministry spokesman Rami Kaal said that there were no injuries in the attack in western Tripoli’s Siahia neighborhood and that “an investigation is under way.”
Libyan security sources say that the assailants drove up to the compound and escaped the area after attacking the building.
Locals say the ambassador’s residence was hit in the assault. The envoy was said to be out of the country at the time of the incident.
The attack comes two days after a rocket hit a residential building near the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli.
In April, the French embassy in Libya also came under attack.
On September 11, 2012, four Americans, including US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, were killed at the US Consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi.
Benghazi has been the scene of numerous attacks and assassinations over the past year as the power struggle between militiamen has intensified.
