Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani says that Australia keeps taking steps on the wrong path after the bitter experience of joining the US-back coalition in Iraq and Afghanistan and is accompanying the US in the destabilization of the region.

According to The Iran Project,Kanaani on Tuesday reacted to the claims of the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese who had accused Iran to play a “very destructive role” in the region, terming the accusations leveled against the Islamic Republic as unfair and baseless.

The Australian government is well-aware of Iran's key role in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan, combating ISIS and extremist groups, and ensuring energy security in one of the important international waterways, he noted.

Australia reverses the realities of the region, supports the Zionist regime's killing of innocent Gazans, and advocates the recent US-UK attacks on Yemen and a flagrant violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, he underlined.

Iran hails the awakened and justice-seeking people of Australia in calling for an end to the Zionist regime's brutal attacks on Palestinian infrastructures, women and children, he said.

Kanaani urged Canberra not to allow geographical distance to impede its political foresight in comprehending the on-the-ground political and security realities of the region.
