The prosecutor of the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman says some 16 bombs were defused before the blasts throughout Kerman province.

According to The Iran Project, Mehdi Bakhshi made the remarks during a televised interview on Saturday, three days into the terrorist attacks.

He stated that as many as 16 bombs have been discovered throughout Kerman province whose explosive power was more than the suicide vests used in the Wednesday explosions.

“Thirty-two people have been arrested in [connection with] Kerman [terrorist] crime case and are going through preliminary interrogations,” he was quoted by IRNA as saying.

The prosecutor also rejected rumors that the explosives used during the attack were placed in trash cans and were remotely detonated, noting both bomb blasts were conducted by suicide bombers, one of whom was from Tajikistan.

The judicial official stressed that the province had to deal with a high number of threats during this year's martyrdom anniversary of General Soleimani, amid reports about potential terror attacks by Daesh and the anti-Iranian Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MKO) terrorist cult.

In a In its Friday statement, the intelligence ministry announced that operation equipment has been discovered in the hideouts of the terrorists, including two explosive vests, two remote control devices, detonators, thousands of bullets used in the explosive vests, wiring prepared for the vests and quantities of explosive raw materials.

The ministry said security forces detained two terrorists on Thursday for providing support to the bombers in their hideout in Kerman’s suburbs.

The Daesh claimed terrorist explosions were carried out near the burial site of Iran’s late anti-terror commander General Qassem Soleimani during a ceremony marking the fourth anniversary of his martyrdom.

The twin bombings left 89 people, including 76 Iranians and 13 Afghans, dead and wounded 286, some of them in critical condition.

Daesh’s Afghanistan-based branch claimed responsibility for twin bombings in Iran’s Kerman.
