The civilians entering illegally from Syria fired shots at the Turkish troops after being warned not to move. A skirmish then erupted between the groups when the Turkish side returned fire.


One person has died in an armed clash while illegally crossing the Syrian border into Turkey, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) announced on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on its website, the TSK said Turkish troops detected a group of eight civilians on Monday at 5:30 p.m. as they were attempting to enter Turkey illegally. The civilians fired shots at the Turkish troops after being warned not to move. A skirmish then erupted between the groups when the Turkish side returned fire.

As a result of the incident, one person from the group died, the TSK's statement said.
