The Iran Project - European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has urged Iran to use its influence to prevent the conflict between Israel and Gaza from spreading throughout the wider West Asia region.

Borrell discussed the situation in Gaza with Amirabdollahian during a phone call, emphasizing the EU's condemnation of terrorism and commitment to protecting civilians.

He stressed the importance of avoiding regional escalation and called on Iran to help prevent the conflict from spreading further.

Meanwhile, Iran's foreign minister warned that an expansion of the war in Gaza is becoming increasingly likely and called for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to provide aid to the people of Gaza.

He further expressed hope that Iran could play a constructive role in easing the crisis.

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry says the resistance front’s hands are not tied up and there are other options if Israel continues its atrocities against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

“We are witnessing an unequal war against Palestinian people in Gaza, and the onslaught is followed by numerous crimes,” Nasser Kan’ani said during an interview with Lebanon’s Aabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network.

“We are witnessing genocide against Palestinians. All those who follow Israeli affairs acknowledge that the Zionist regime is not what it used to be prior to October 7. The resistance’s hands are not tied up. It will not stand idly by and will deliver a deterrent response.”
