An Iranian border guard was martyred in a clash with armed terrorists trying to cross the country’s southeastern border in Sistan and Balouchestan Province.
The Iranian border guard, identified as Hassan Ghourzaei, was martyred in a clash that broke out in the Saravan region on Monday night.
The troops serving in the border regiment of Saravan clashed with a group of terrorists who were trying to cross the border near a border post.
Saravan County in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, which borders Pakistan, has over the past years been the scene of clashes between Iranian security forces and terrorist groups and drug traffickers.
Back in May, five Iranian border guards were killed in clashes with terrorists and anti-Islamic Revolution groups in the same province.
Colonel Alireza Shahraki, chief of the Iranian Police Criminal Investigation (CID) Department in Saravan County, was fatally shot after unknown gunmen sprayed bullets on his car in an ambush at a crossroad.
Shahraki’s wife was also seriously wounded in the incident and was transferred to the hospital to receive medical treatment.
Earlier, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a fatal terrorist attack on the country’s border guards at a post near Pakistan as a targeted action against the security and interests of the two neighbors.
