A top commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says Iran may increase the range of its first hypersonic missile, named Fattah, to 2,000 kilometers in the future.
Speaking during a ceremony at the University of Mazandaran on Wednesday, Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Division, said the next version of the missile may have a range of 2000 kilometers, compared to its current range of 1,400 kilometers.
Fattah was put on display earlier this month as a historic achievement for the Iranian Armed Forces in strengthening the country’s defense might.
The missile can travel at a speed of up to Mach 15, which is 15 times the speed of sound. It is also able to penetrate all air defense systems and detonate them due to its high maneuverability and speed.
Also in his remarks, Hajizadeh hailed Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi’s attendance at Fattah’s unveiling ceremony.
He further said that despite sanctions and pressures, Iran has managed to achieve “all sophisticated technologies in the field of defense industry” by relying on domestic capabilities and the revolutionary youth.
“We should not look toward abroad for progress within the country. Power grows in the IRGC on a daily basis. We must follow up Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s call for becoming stronger day by day,” the IRGC commander asserted.
